PROGRAM NOTE

Night Spirits for Solo Piano was commissioned and premiered by pianist Alin Melik-Adamyan. Night Spirits is a high-intensity, virtuosic work that serves as a showpiece for the pianist, requiring great dexterity in the hands, rhythmic precision throughout, and a special attention to clarity of phrasing and articulation. The title is something of a double entendre — it refers both to nighttime images of ghostly figures dancing in the dark as well as to bubbly evening libations.
